New Year’s Eve 2018 at FFS II

It's a Floating Fish Studios tradition to record some live electronic warfare to herald in the New Year and in celebration of my birthday. That's right, I'm a New Year's baby born on 01/01/70.

This year, Imbued Vagary will, once again, dive deep into the electronic plasma pool and stream the chaos on Facebook Live beginning at 10pm EST.  Be sure to check back often on New Year’s Eve for audio, video, and photo updates as well as behind-the-scenes exclusives.

Crash Landing (Live)

While preparing for our performance at the cOMMuN cIRCUiT Noise Festival, which unfortunately was canceled, we assembled the machines at FFS II to do some sound experimentation.

This track, titled Crash Landing, is an electronic experiment from the session.  It’s noisy!  Just the way the Imbued Vagary Noise fans like it!

Hummbucker

Floating Fish Studios held Synth Jam 2015 - Snow at FFS II on 02/21/15. The ensemble gathered included Dave Chandler (aka Thee Sub One Genius), M Scott McConnell (aka MC2P4), and Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll).

The 2nd sonic exploration of the session produced the Noise track, Hummbucker.  The music jaggedly lurches forward just as Ttam Troll does in silhouette on the left side of the screen attacking a Roland SH-09 and Sequential Circuits Prophet 600.  MC2P4 is off camera to the right on the Moog Sonic Six while Thee Sub One Genius is front and center driving from Ableton Live.

Hold on… This ride gets bumpy!

Let the Noise Flow

Floating Fish Studios held its first Synth Jam Session of 2014 at FFS II on 04/11/14.  With a concentration on Noise, the ensemble gathered included Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll) and M Scott McConnell (aka MC2P4).

MC2P4 sends the output of his original Korg MS-10 through an arsenal of Korg Monotron synths and pedal effects to create a whirling dervish of sound while Ttam Troll manipulates the control panel of a Moog Little Phatty to add even more sonic aggression.

It Sang to Him

This track, titled It Sang to Him, is the companion to The Sun Came Out Last Night.  It was actually recorded before The Sun Came Out Last Night during the FFS II Synth Jam 2015 - First Strike session on 01/01/15 but seems more fitting as a companion or reprise to the latter.  Again, the Ensoniq EPS is utilized quite extensively by layering sample after sample.  The sample, “He says the sun came out last night.  He says it sang to him.” is also used here.  I guess you can’t use a good sample too much.

The personnel on this track consists of Dave Chandler (aka Thee Sub One Genius) on Rhythmic Metronome and Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll) on Ensoniq EPS samples and Moog Minimoog bass drones.

The Sun Came Out Last Night

Floating Fish Studios held its first Synth Jam Session of 2015 at FFS II on 01/01/15.  Fresh from Imbued Vagary’s live streaming event on NYE 2015, the ensemble gathered included (from L to R) Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll), M Scott McConnell (aka MC2P4), and Dave Chandler (aka Thee Sub One Genius).

This track, titled The Sun Came Out Last Night, is another sample laden collage of electronic noise from the session.  MC2P4 takes the lead on this.  Layering multiple samples on the Ensoniq EPS while Thee Sub One Genius and Ttam Troll add analog, digital, and virtual instruments.

You're Different

Floating Fish Studios held its first Synth Jam Session of 2015 at FFS II on 01/01/15.  Fresh from Imbued Vagary’s live streaming event on NYE 2015, the ensemble gathered included (from L to R) M Scott McConnell (aka MC2P4), Dave Chandler (aka Thee Sub One Genius), and Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll).

On this track, titled You’re Different, a sample taken from the 1981 Michael Crichton movie, Looker, played from an Ensoniq EPS was used to create the atmospheric basis of the improv.  Those familiar with the film should recognize the sound of the L.O.O.K.E.R. (Light Ocular-Oriented Kinetic Emotive Responses) gun.  MC2P4 contributed Korg Z1 pads, Thee Sub One Genius added virtual instrument sound effects, while Ttam Troll layered even more Looker samples and Ensoniq ESQ-1 pads to complete the track.

I hope you enjoy this, the first of many tracks from FFS II Synth Jam 2015 - First Strike!
