FFS II Synth Jam 2010 Raw Video

This raw unedited video footage is taken from FFS II Synth Jam 2010 which was held on 02/20/10. The ensemble gathered included Tim Harrell (aka LTJTHC), Dave Chandler (aka Thee Sub One Genius), M Scott McConnell (aka MC2P4), Stephen Saputelli (aka Steve O), and Matt Norcross (aka Ttam Troll).

As you'll see in the video, though the music may sound "serious", we certainly were not. This improv is titled TR-6.

FFS Logo Video Title (1993)

What would you do with a camcorder, some Alka-Seltzer, and a bucket of dead fish? Well, back in 1993, we at FFS decided to film our first logo video title. We descended upon Tiny Park (a friend's farmhouse estate) with our smelly catch of the day and set up our equipment to stage the shoot. In the small stream that ran through the property, we carefully placed our mutilated fish parts and dropped in Alka-Seltzer tablets to simulate a frothy, toxic environment.

After filming the raw footage of our toxic fish stew, we headed back to the studio to finish the title. Our obstacle, at this point, was to figure out a way to add the FFS text over top of the picture. We didn't have a character generator or a non-linear editing system, which would have made adding the text very easy, so we had to be creative. Our FX generator (Panasonic WJ-AVE3) had a superimpose video input and my solution was to print the Floating Fish Studios name on the top and bottom of a 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper, tape it onto the wall, point our camcorder at it, and feed the output of the camcorder into the superimpose input of our FX generator. I centered the text over the fish footage, colorized (green) the picture, and "voila"! We had our first FFS logo video title.

It's basic and does not have any sound but it's imagery literally communicates what we meant by the name Floating Fish Studios.

Video Library Part 2

In an earlier post, I showed you one side of the Video Library.  Here's a picture of the other side.  You can see the end of my DVDs (U-Z) as well as my fledgling Blu-ray collection and VHS tapes.  

The far right media case houses original FFS VHS.  Contained on these tapes are our early music videos, video shoot footage, live performances, etc.  We've been digitizing these tapes to DVD for archival purposes and, from those DVDs, I've been pulling content for this blog.  We've only scratched the surface of what is there.  We have everything from MC2P4's Oil In the Gulf mouth chewing video shoot to the making of Ho Magos' Esotericka videos.  Punch Drunk's 1993 strobe light intense Silk City performance to Any Questions? "burn down the club with a flare" 4 G's show.  Oddities which include a long haired, corpulent Ttam Troll waxing poetic and footage of a partygoer puking into a plastic pumpkin.

Good entertainment for the whole family!

Do I see Beverly Hills, 90210 in your collection?

Yes.  After watching almost every season and episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 with my friend Jackey, how could I not add some to the Video Library?  In my defense, right beside it is Beyond Re-Animator.  Something a little more in character for me.

This picture features another borrowed shadeless lamp.  I guess that I really need to do some lamp shopping.

P.S. 90210 was much better after Valerie replaced Brenda on the show and, of course, it was all over after Brandon left.

Night of the Any Questions?

Here is some raw feed from an Any Questions? Mutation-era (1999) video shoot.  As you can see, it was quite the horrific scene.  This is only a small excerpt from that day's shoot and never made it into any official video release.  In the weeks and months to come, I'll continue to release these video treats that will give you a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of Floating Fish Studios.

This was shot in The Griffith Compound at The Farmhouse.  Steve Olsen was manning the video camera on this shoot while Kelly Hoffman and Beth Ballein were running lights and shooting off fog.

This will soon be the Video Library and home to all my Blu-rays, DVDs, LaserDiscs, VHS, 8mm, etc. For now, it's just a library of boxes.
